News: Madlib to release Beat Konducta Vol. 5-6

Jan 05, 09

The new, all-instrumental, 42-track disc is set for delivery on February 10 and will act as a tribute to Madlib's great friend and labelmate, the late J Dilla.  The disc, whose volumes are nicknamed Beat Konducta Vol. 5: Dil Cosby Suite and Beat Konducta Vol. 6: Dil Withers Suite, is the CD version of the limited vinyl double LP pressing, which will also be available from Stones Throw.

Download: Bumblebeez complete the 3030 + new remix

Jan 05, 09

The siblings Colonna aka Bumblebeez set out to make thirty tracks in that many days, and while it seemed an insurmountable task at many points along the way (just read some of Chris's blog post subject lines on their website), there are some stellar tracks in there.  Some of our favorites are "Wabbit Wabbit", "It's The Madness", "Coming Home Pissed And Tired" and "Sweet Thang".  To top off the task, here's a tremendously overwhelming remix of "Zulu" by Bang Gang and Knife Machine.

Photos: Girls & Boys on January 2

Jan 05, 09

Kicking off the 09 correctly, the dudes from Girls & Boys (srsly, get a member with two x chromosomes please) brought out the fire last Friday night with epic DJ sets from One Man Party aka Steve from Soulwax and French visual genius/teddy bear So-Me.  Opening and closing the night with dancefloor fillers were G&B residents rekLES (who we totally want to see more of, we miss you!) and Gavin Royce as well as a quick disco leap from DC's Gavin Holland.  The Rude NY crew was also there, although we hear rumblings that the bear broke his arm after an ill-fated spill.

Download: Tigersapien posts the first few tracks from their upcoming EP

And they're fucking right on.  Philadelphia-based electro/blog house group Tigersapien have been causing swirls in our heads recently, with cryptic MySpace bulletins and legitimate claims to censorship (sure, some of their promo photos had to be edited for nudity content, but that's just better promo we guess) and these, the first few tracks from the EP they're set to drop on the world any minute now.  The tracks, "Used To Be" and "Right Angles", are jittery party tunes that showcase the band's penchant for live electronics, Moroder-styled breaks and, well, the vocoder, all helmed by the production work of Thomas Kee and Michael Vincent Patrick (Designer Drugs).

News: Buffet Libre announce tracklist for Rewind 2

Jan 04, 09

It seems like only a few months ago when Marc and the boys at Buffet Libre finalized the first edition of this, a compilation that cherry picked your favorite 80s cuts and pitted some of the hottest acts (or up-and-comers) to cover them.  Well, now, in the dawn of a new year, comes the release of the sophomore edition, Rewind 2.  And this time, the plot is thickened.  Now, we get an expanded time period (70s, 80s and 90s) and even more tunes to choose from.  And it's all still free to download.  The tracklist has just been finalized, and we've got it (as well as some preview clips), after the jump.

Download: The Shoes - "People Movin' (La Mode remix)"

Jan 04, 09

The perfect accompaniment to this laziest-of-all Sundays (ugh, work tomorrow y'all, huh?), this new remix from the Aussies in the DJ crew La Mode of "People Movin'" is all loungey and bopped-to-the-max, translates the original, infectious number from France's The Shoes, an otherwise straightforward psychedelia-inspired number, into yet another kind of fun.

News: Afghan Raiders talk to 944 Magazine

Jan 04, 09

Las Vegas, NV-based don't-call-them-DJs-ever electronic duo Afghan Raiders (yes, they take their name from a line in Amelie) sat down with 944 Magazine and talked some smack about books, arty films, pinball and the merits of David Cross's comedy.  Dig on the article here.

Download: Mr Oizo vs Proxy - "Bruce Willis Dead Raven (Skitsnygg Killed This remix)"

Jan 04, 09

Probably one of the more recognizable staples in the NYC nightlife scene has been Skitsnygg, the DJ/party kid who was born with the name Brian who's as well-known for that ratty-ass green hoodie as he is for his getting on stage and lurking around habits.  What's les known though is that he's a pretty good DJ and remixer.  So, fuck all of that bullshit about the hoodie's scent (it's gross) and sniff around on this track, a remix of Mr Oizo's "Bruce Willis Is Dead" and Russian-bred The Proxy's "Raven".  It's dope and it's Sunday, so we need some dopeness.

Live: The Antlers play Cake Shop tonight

Jan 03, 09

If you know what's good for you (and we think you're old enough to by now), you'll head over to Cake Shop tonight before 10pm.  Peter Silberman (above, far left) aka The Antlers is playing along with Sharon Van Etten, Pet Ghost Project and Lucinda Black Bear.  It's only a handful of singles to get in ($7) so we think you'd be making a mistake if you didn't go and see these acts.
