News: Max Richter to perform for the first time stateside

Avant as fuck classical wunderkind, Max Richter, will be performing for the first time (EVER) this coming November at New York City’s very own Wordless Music Series. He’s been compared to everyone from Philip Glass and Steve Reich to Kraftwerk or Brian Eno, Richter has spent the last few years crafting the sort of minimalist music that post-rock had once aspired to become.
Mixing blips and beeps, piano and spoken word, found sound and sparse orchestrations, Richter fuses the beautiful with the hypnotic, the subtle with the surreal. From the FatCat Records press release:
We are very pleased to announce that 130701 roster member Max Richter will be playing his first-ever USA show in New York on November 28, as part of the excellent Wordless Music Series, which is also presenting his labelmates Múm and Hauschka November 9-10. Past Wordless Music Series performers have included Glenn Kotche, Andrew Bird, Explosions In The Sky, Polmo Polpo, Amiina, and The Books; in addition to Múm, Max Richter, and Hauschka, the upcoming season features Do Make Say Think, Beirut, Nico Muhly, and Jonny Greenwood of Radiohead.
Max Richter’s performance, accompanied by a full chamber ensemble and video projections, will include selections from the 130701 albums ‘Songs from Before’ and ‘The Blue Notebooks’. Also appearing will be the Minneapolis ambient/electronic composer and Ghostly International recording artist Cepia, as well as New York City pianist Assaff Weisman, who will perform solo piano music by Joseph Haydn and Olivier Messiaen.
