Emerging: Burning Hearts

Rising from the (sort-of) ashes of two Finnish bands that captivated their native lands, Cats On Fire drummer/multi-instrumentalist Henry Ojala and Le Futur Pompiste haunting-voiced singer Jessika Rapo formed Burning Hearts as their former groups were dissolving around them. And after only hearing a few clips from their upcoming debut album, Aboa Sleeping (out February 10), we can honestly say that this is some of the most beautifully fleeting, emotionally charged music we think we'll get for all of the 09. The instrumentation is gorgeous and full of melancholy, Rapo's vocals are littered with a sense of somber hope. This is the stuff we think about when we talk about wanting to hear good pop music. Nothing overpowers anything else and all of the compliments we could pay this group, we would. And with a line like this (from the track "I Lost My Color Vision"), "You planted some flowers on the same spot I'd been planning to drop a nuclear bomb", we think you'll agree.
