The first single from the sophomore disc of an artist who's sort of become Kanye West's protege, the R&B sway-worthy singer/songwriter Mr Hudson, gets the disco treatment here from one Calvin Harris, whose efforts could only be described as salvage. The instrumentation that full-on kicks in around the 1:30 mark is so entrenching and foot-stompingly epic, you get lost listening to the beat rather than the lyrics, which are sort of a crutch put on Harris's arrangement, to be perfectly honest. The Auto-Tune trend lives and dies by songs like this, and we'd much prefer to hear more beats from this treatment, because, that's what Calvin Harris does best. It all feels rushed and just a bit sloppy, but we're also totally sure that every club in the nation (and the UK) will be bumping this track at full volume right away. Straight No Chaser is out August 3.
