Emerging: ApSci

Aug 4, 2009

Cause we are living in a post-everything world and ApSci are a post-everything, er, duo. The NYC experimental hip hop married couple duo just released their sophomore disc, Best Crisis Ever, were named in URB's "next 100" category and are pretty much the raddest story out there right now. Mixing punk ethos, turntablism, electro pulses and hip hop progressions, ApSci are a true melting-pot post-whatever-you-want-to-call-it-today act that should be on radars and minds from heretofore. "Under Control" has moments of early, growly Le Tigre shout shouts and electroclash ladies-up-front moments. The beats are muted yet massive and the back-and-forth between betrothed Raphael LaMotta and Dana Diaz-Tutaan is equally volatile and sexual. But not a moment of ApSci is left unpartied, and that's crucial.
