Gretta and Jack from My Gold Mask sent us and Sheena Beaston a joint email this evening thanking us in advance for having them in our CMJ showcase. You know, the one happening next Thursday, October 22 at Europa in Brooklyn? But we're getting off-topic, sorry. So, to thank us, the duo from Chicago also included word that they'd just finished their song "Violet Eyes", set to appear on a new EP of material sometime in November or December of this year and have giving us the opportunity to premiere it to you all. The track, which you may have heard a version or two of before this posting, is a slow-going destroyer filled with layers and layers of guitars, drums, basslines, effects and soaring, completely moving vocals from Gretta and enough "ah ah"s from Jack to back her up throughout the song's five minute run-time. The duo are really well-versed in putting the drama back in pop music without all of the physical theatrics some pop kids need, opting instead for the histrionics of Gretta's voice and the educated arrangements from her "other", Jack.
