Download: Flashmen – “As The Night Rolls On (Jemex remix)”

Dec 28, 2009

We've been meaning to apologize really to one of our favorite acts of 2009, Flashmen, since we posted our "Top 24" breakdown last week. Without any charades we have to admit that, while we didn't enumerate anything on the list aside from the top slot we popped on Fever Ray's stunning debut, we had been trying to figure out if we could place either the Spy Hunter EP or their simply fantastic "Spring Romance mix" somewhere among the ranks of the year's best for us, but it didn't make sense. You see, the list is a hodgepodge at best, and showcases a number of acts we didn't spend a ton of time talking about on the site–and some that we may have spent too much time with. Flashmen, the shade-filled 80s disco house outfit, did not (and still don't) deserve to be glanced over quickly, so it ached us when we left the guys out of the rankings. And we still feel terrible about it every time we hear one of their songs come on a playlist, or Hype Machine shuffle or whatever. They deserve recognition and praise, and maybe 2010 will bring both of those things to their doorstep (not to mention a spot on a ton of wrap-up pieces on the Internet next December), but today, we wanted to just give out some thanks to them, for making fun dance music that feels good to listen to–and doesn't make that any more complicated than it truly needs to be.
