While Internet backlash has already sort of happened to the chillwave movement of the 2009 spring/summer (cf. Washed Out, Toro Y Moi), we haven't been a part of it. And for good reason: we're fans of the genre and the heirs apparent to it, Neon Indian. Alan Palomo's woozier take as compared to Vega, Neon Indian's "Deadbeat Summer" was just the sort of song that could ignite and also, turn off. It's that divisive nature that makes you realize what the mark of a truly great act can be. Fans and enemies alike, with both parties still talking about them, regardless. Enter the Sao Paulo duo Database, whose truncated remix of the Neon Indian track reimagines it for a larger dance floor and also brings full circle back to center why the song worked in the first place. You'll remember why as well.
