Video: Megan Thomas feat. Dreamer - “Stay Tight”

It’s only been about two months since we’d first heard the final version of this song, compliments of Dell “080” Harris and the Altanta-based glitch pop girl named Megan Thomas, or Love Megan T. But now, today, we can finally talk about the finished video from Thomas and rap guy Dreamer, which features the pair in all sorts of partying (pre-, during and after-), with good-looking girls and guys throughout and pleasantly lit (thanks ring-light LEDs) scenarios.

Getting Sassy with…Ferry Corsten

We here around THE CULTURE OF ME were once obsessed with all things relating to Sassy and Dirt magazines. And while those titles are long gone, the sentiment of how they covered the culture industries has indeed left its mark on writers and culture vultures everywhere. It is because of that influence that we are proud to present our features post, “Getting Sassy with…”, wherein we bring you that much closer to your favorite bands by way of a simple Q&A session that’s both painless and informative. Ha! Beat that, FOX News!

This time: Ferry Corsten.

Leading up to another year of the Electric Zoo Festival happening across Labor Day weekend here in New York City, we’ve once again teamed with the people at Made Event and festival organizers to bring you closer to and give the spotlight over to the dozens of acts who’ll be gracing the stages.

Photos: Girls & Boys on July 29

Girls & Boys at Webster Hall went all hip hop and bounce on Friday night with a super-short performance from the legendary Grammy winner Coolio, a D.J. set from the king Grandmaster Flash and an opening act bounce set from Rusty Lazer (Big Freedia’s resident party stomper) and his booty dancers. It was a dance fest from the start of the show with residents RekLES and Alex English opening it all up, and once Rusty hit the decks it was bouncing, bouncing, bouncing.

Stream: The Weeknd - “The Party & The After Party (Kastle remix)”

On the whole, this just-posted remix from Kastle is one of the better remix from at least the last 90 days. Maybe even more than that. It grooves along the lines of The Weeknd’s original hazy nature and oversexed and underwhelmed pastiche and the beat employed is just a crusher. We’d have said this were a perfect song, but we’d be lying, if only due in large part to one major misstep: that of the inclusion of a mixtape-stylized drop of “Kastle” every so often throughout, which (for us at least) takes you out of the moment immediately, much like the gurus of this kind of technical employ (looking at you Clue, Flex, Green Lantern, Capri, Whoo Kid, et al.) would annoyingly incorporate at almost every instance possible. Otherwise, it’s pretty incredible. Nice work.

Getting Sassy with…12th Planet

We here around THE CULTURE OF ME were once obsessed with all things relating to Sassy and Dirt magazines. Since then, 12th Planet has conquered the Los Angeles scene and is often dubbed as the American kings of dubstep. He’s also one of the most energetic people you’ll ever meet, whether behind the tables or not. Photos: The Mad Decent Block Party in New York City on July 30 (Part 3 of 4)

In our third installment of photographs from Saturday’s all day dance extravaganza (the Mad Decent Block Party’s first stop in New York City) we present you with forty frames from our Fujifilm Instax Wide camera, shot by the lovely and inexplicably-amazing-at-everything Heidi Hamelin, who turned her lease of the camera from us for a week into a quick photo project of the day because we had forty extra frames. We love the contrast of the film that daytime provided and though the colors have a subtler tone than our favorite Polaroid 600 analogs, we’ve grown to really love the photographs made thus far with it.

Stream: Mayer Hawthorne - “When The Night Falls (Chromeo cover)”

Slinky soul gets a little slinkier here, as the only cover version of Chromeo’s “When The Night Falls” from their EP of remixes of the track (Hercules & Love Affair, Breakbot, Lifelike) comes from Stones Throw aficionado Mayer Hawthorne, who takes the song into 1970’s AM radio territory. It’s totally crushworthy and easily reinvigorates the listener to go back and re-listen to Business Casual and also (probably) pick up the new EP too. You should do both, right away.

Photos: Ellie Goulding and Bag Raiders played Terminal 5 last week

Sorry for inundating you guys with all of these Mad Decent Block Party photos, because, honestly, other stuff happened last weekend. Like this show we went to on Friday evening at Terminal 5 that featured songstress and sprite-sized Ellie Goulding and the Aussie power-pop/disco pop duo Bag Raiders. The NYLON magazine-sponsored tour the set of acts were on together finally hit New York City—in a big, big way. The show was sold out, the energy was huge (young kids are just filled with it) and we couldn’t have had a better time shooting and hanging out during both sets.
